Three natural ways to improve your eye health

At least six out of 10 individuals in the U.S. need corrective lenses to support their vision. Others turn to eye surgery, a procedure that has some risks, to permanently fix their eyesight. Most people think these are their only options.

However, in the video below, which was uploaded on the official Healing the Body Brighteon channel, Derek Henry discusses three natural remedies that can give your eyes a boost in health. Henry is the founder of Healing the Body, a website that focuses on natural healing.

Liver health, eye exercises, and proper nutrition

People rarely discuss natural ways to improve their eyesight, partly because some eye doctors don’t realize that there are other options and partly because these natural remedies threaten their livelihood. However, just because health professionals won’t readily suggest natural remedies to improve your eyes, doesn’t mean you should just take their word for it and automatically get fitted for a pair of eyeglasses.

Here are three natural ways to support your eyesight.

Cleanse your liver

Keeping your liver clean and healthy can improve your eyesight. In fact, practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine believe that the liver and eyes have a unique connection and that compromising liver health can affect the eyes.

The liver is the body’s main detoxification organ. Any free radicals that must be neutralized and excreted will mostly be targeted by the liver.

If your liver is in poor condition, free radicals may increase in your bloodstream, which can result in the breakdown of healthy tissue, the delicate retina, and the macula of the eyes. A liver blood deficiency may also cause blurred vision, dry eyes, floaters, and short-sightedness.

Eye exercises

There are several ways to support your vision with eye exercises, but all of them should be done without wearing any corrective lenses whenever possible. These exercises will help strengthen your eye muscles, and they can’t be done efficiently while you’re wearing eyeglasses that “prop up” these muscles.

One such exercise is sungazing. Sungazing is the practice of staring at the sunrise or sunset for extended periods of time to strengthen the ocular endocrine system. The key to this therapy is the invisible ultraviolet band in the retina. While the visible bands of light stimulate the retina’s cones and rods that produce vision, the invisible bands stimulate the adjacent epithelial cells that transmit the stimulus as a powerful nerve impulse through the optic nerve directly to the pituitary and pineal glands.

Henry swears by this technique, saying it’s a “powerful healing and strengthening exercise for the eyes.”

Another way to support your vision is to wear pinhole glasses. This unique pair of glasses have hundreds of tiny holes that alter the light entering your eyes. Pinhole glasses transform light from an overpowering mass of light rays to a collection of lower intensity distinct light rays that effectively give your eyes a more organized pattern on which to focus.

This causes the ciliary body of your eyes to engage in adaptive exercise, which helps support the range of motion of your ciliary muscles. These muscles control the shape of your lenses and focus light inside your eyes. As these muscles become stronger, the more your eyesight will improve. Pinhole glasses are an affordable and safe remedy that can help improve your eyesight. Wear them for several minutes each day to enhance your vision.

Nourish your eyes and brain

In general, consuming foods rich in antioxidants can help improve your vision. Raw vegetables rich in antioxidants and various carotenoids can help protect and support your eyesight. These foods also have lutein and zeaxanthin, two antioxidants that are found in large amounts in the lens and retina of your eyes. Studies show that these two antioxidants can help support eye health. (Related: Study: A derivative of turmeric can be used in eye drops to treat glaucoma.)

Foods rich in carotenoids include:

As for supplements, one of the most powerful antioxidants that can support eye health is astaxanthin. The “king of carotenoids” contains more antioxidants than popular supplements like glutathione and resveratrol.

On their own, these three remedies can help promote eye health. However, combining all three of them will have an exponential effect and provide more significant results.

These remedies, coupled with a healthy diet, and avoiding foods and activities that can strain your eyes, can naturally support your vision.
